An Antique Fernware Wooden Box

This wooden fernware box is in immaculate condition and the wood is a lovely colour. It would have been made in Mauchline in East Ayrshire in c.1870. The Victorians had a passion for the fern form as a decorative motif. The use of ferns to inspire decorative patterns has continued in modern times in textiles and wallpapers for example, Soane Britain. These fernware boxes were made using dried fern fronds and leaves as stencils. This box would make an eye catching accessory for bookshelves or a side table.
